Infertility Advocacy Day Held in Washington, DC

One in every eight couples suffers from the disease of infertility, and treatments that are available do work.  On May 7, 2014, Sogand Zamani and volunteers for RESOLVE, The National Infertility Association, met with staff for our Senators and Representatives to discuss the physical, emotional and financial tolls this disease has on a significant part of our population, and to support the passage of three critical bills:

1. The Family Act (The Infertility Tax Credit), which could assist thousands of people seeking medical treatment that otherwise would be out of reach for them;

2. The Adoption Tax Credit Refundability Act, which would extend tax benefits to more Americans, encourage adoption and increase American families’ abilities to offer homes to adoptive children; and

3.  The Women Veterans and Other Health Care Improvements Acts, which provide access to fertility treatment for seriously injured veterans and their spouses, including the option of surrogacy, adoption assistance, and permanent authority for VA to provide child care.

Together, these three initiatives provide funding to individuals and couples seeking to form families through adoption and assisted reproductive technology, such as IVF.  By visiting legislators in person, volunteers for the event were able to put a face to those affected by infertility and advocate for their rights.  RESOLVE’s Advocacy Day was well-attended and incredibly successful in its mission to increase awareness for families and individuals dealing with infertility.
