On April 23, 2014, the MSBA Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section Council hosted a day-long training with world renowned author of Taking the War Out of Our Words, pioneer in the field of non-defensive communication, and award-winning speaker, Sharon Strand Ellison. Sharon Ellison, Founder and Executive Director of the Institute for Powerful Non-Defensive Communication, joined practitioners from across the state for a packed skills based training on the Powerful Non-Defensive Communication process that she created. The evening was capped off with a celebration in honor of mediator Martin Kranitz, winner of the ADR Section’s prestigious Bell Award, which was presented by retired Chief Judge Robert M. Bell. Maryland’s first female and first latino Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, Mary Ellen Barbera, delivered the keynote address and promised continued support for the ADR process in Maryland through the court system.
